Abortion in Alabama

Does anyone else think that, “Planned Parenthood”, is a ironic name for an abortion provider??  I try to pay attention whenever Alabama makes the Internets because its not that often.  I couldn’t believe what I was reading at Hot Air this morning. I don’t like seeing Alabama making headlines over stories like this (as part of the Mona Lisa Project headed by Lila Rose).

A Planned Parenthood counselor in Birmingham was caught on hidden camera telling an alleged 14-year-old statutory rape victim that the clinic “does sometimes bend the rules a little bit” rather than report sexual abuse to state authorities……After telling the counselor that her “boyfriend” is 31, Rose asks, “Is it a problem about my boyfriend?” The counselor, identified as “Tanisha” in the video, responds, “As long as you consented to having sex with him, there’s nothing we can truly do about that.”

What! The most disturbing part is that this is the 6th clinic that Lila has covertly gone to in the last year and they all have the same MO:  We’ll help that 14 yr old get that abortion while simultaneously protecting the thirty year old perv from the law.  Video below:

The second most disturbing part is that the US government is subsidizing these illegal abortions. Planned Parenthood receives over 320 million from taxpayers each year. The tax-exempt “nonprofit” netted $100 million in net income last year including revenue of over $100 million directly from performing 289,000 abortions.

  1. I’m from Birmingham. Well, actually, just moved from there. What has been amazing me recently is the level of “news” coverage that goes to something like the Jackson death, while government funded activity like this goes totally unreported. Tragic in so many ways.

  2. Let’s recognize this for what it is, a failure of an organization to follow the rules. Like any organization or business, it’s made of up people. People who are fallible, people who screw up, and people who just don’t care. You want to get your panties in a twist because “this government funded activity goes unreported” – are you pissed because it’s poorly managed government funds or because the funds (used correctly or not) support abortions at all?

    Mike,
In answer to your last question: All of the above. It is a tremendous waste of taxpayer money to fund a “non-profit” which earns a profit each year. Same thing goes for farm subsidies.
I also believe that there is a significant difference between the “failure to follow the rules,” as you put it, and the failure to follow the law. The employees in this video broke the law twice. A law designed to protect a 14 yr old girl from statutory rape and another law requiring parental notification. Both of these statutes were easily bypassed for the sake of profit, which seems to be the recurring theme with Planned Parenthood.
I, along with a majority[Gallup poll of May 15/09] of Americans am pro-life.
